What Exactly is VPN? : Virtual Private Network Explained

Many of you guys have lots of queries about VPN, what is it? how it works? and how you can we use it on our devices? So here you will get a brief idea about Virtual Private Network, its usage and every topic related to this context.

Virtual Private Network is the full form of VPN.
Now, Let us know what is a network, for example, if you have a internet connection at home on your smart devices, and you are connecting all of your device wired or wirelessly, then it is known as a internal network, similarly, if you are requesting any search engine for a web page then the web page might be initiated from any part of the world, now your request will be sent to the server where the page is stored, through your router, and when the server replies then you can view the particular web page on your screen. This is known as network.

Now, whichever devices you are using are assigned with a particular IP Address, now your IP Address goes to the server and then it replies to your IP Address that the requested web page is now on the screen.
Now, there are pros and cons in this system of network -

Pros -

1) The only benefit is that with this system of network, you are able to use the internet and the internet is based on it.

Cons-

1) Now, on the other side, your Internet Service Provider, they might track your activity on the internet like the websites you visit, the videos you surf etc.

2) Your Government might as well keep an eye on you.

3) If you are in an open Wi-Fi network, your activities might be watched or data might be hacked. They are many hackers who can invade your privacy.

4) Also, you have seen many times a content on the internet is restricted for a country or region, so you cannot watch them, this happens because the server knows from which network you are raising the request.

Now, this is the place where VPN can be used and the above mentioned list of cons can be overcome.

To understand VPN, you imagine that you are at a particular place, somewhere far there is VPN server and when you connect to that server, then a connection is established between you two is completely encrypted, neither your ISP nor your government can know anything about it that what you are doing.

Also, if you open a website and ask for a request then the server you request to is not able to detect your region, so they show all hidden and blocked content. All the blocked website and contents from your region can be used using VPN. The content is also secure in this network of VPN, no one can keep an eye on you or steal your data.

Confusion:

There is a myth which is firmly believed by multitudes that the use of VPN can increase the speed of their connection, now, just think by yourself if you have a connection of 10 mbps, and the VPN is having a connection of 1gbps, but between the VPN and you,  your ISP gives you the speed of 10 mbps, this whole connection will ultimately make your connection slow in some situation but not the other way round.
So this is completely false that VPN increases the speed of connection.

Difference between paid and free VPN -

Free VPN -

There are many free VPN available on the internet. In free VPN, the internet connection is usually slow, the security is also a question, that the server might track your activities or steal your data.

Paid VPN -

Paid VPN are also available on the internet, which are fast and secure compared to the free ones. Most of the traffic, who use VPN, they avail the paid version.

Does VPN makes you completely anonymous?

Not completely, but many of the vpn servers maintain a log of information about the user and the authorities asks for the log of a particular user, the VPN server provide them with logs.
VPN make you anonymous only and only when the owners of the VPN wants you to be.

Conclusion -

Although, activities of VPN can be tracked by authorities to some level but still VPN, specially paid, is one of the most secured, protected, and encrypted network to surf the web anonymously without any restriction or blocks, but we have to make sure that we do not commit a crime using it else there is always a way to find the criminal. So, use VPN with full responsibility.
